Gus Yahya conveyed this in response to the statement by Rais Aam PBNU, KH Miftachul Akhyar, who said that he was no longer the general chairman of PBNU.
Gus Yahya explained that based on the NU Articles of Association and Bylaws (AD/ART), the position of PBNU General Chair can only be replaced through the Congress forum or Extraordinary Congress, so it cannot be dismissed using other mechanisms.

“De jure, based on NU’s AD/ART, I remain as General Chair of PBNU and cannot be replaced or resigned except through the Congress forum or Extraordinary Congress,” said Gus Yahya as quoted on the NU official website, Sunday (30/11).
Gus Yahya conveyed that de facto he is still carrying out his duties as Mandate of the 34th NU Congress in Lampung for the 2021-2026/2027 solemn period.PBNU’s program agenda and organizational services continue to run as they should.
“De facto, I will continue to carry out my duties as Mandate of the 34th NU Congress in Lampung until 2026/2027. I will continue to strive to carry out the PBNU agenda and sermons for the interests and benefit of the NU congregation and jam’iyyah,” he said.
Gus Yahya said he was continuing to work on handling the internal dynamics and turbulence that had emerged within PBNU in the last few days.
He also emphasized that resolution efforts were carried out with the guidance of the community and through Islamic efforts to maintain organizational unity.
“Apart from that, I also continue to strive to handle the problems and turbulence that is currently occurring within the PBNU organization, with guidance and direction from the community, including making efforts for the unity of the NU congregation and jam’iyyah,” he concluded.
Previously, Rais Aam of the Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) Executive Board, KH Miftachul Akhyar, emphasized that Yahya Cholil Staquf was no longer the general chairman of PBNU.
This was conveyed by Miftach during the PBNU Rais Aam gathering with the PBNU Syuriah and 36 PWNU which was held at the East Java PWNU office, Surabaya, Saturday (29/11).
During the meeting, Miftach said that starting November 26 2025 at 00.45 WIB, Yahya Cholil Staquf would no longer have the status of general chairman of PBNU.
“So [yahya] has no right to use attributes and does not have authority as general chairman of PBNU. And since then the leadership of the Nahdlatul Ulama management has been completely in the hands of Rais Aam,” he said.
Miftach said that his party had also socialized the results of the Syariah meeting’s decision regarding Gus Yahya’s removal to 36 PWNUs throughout Indonesia.And everyone has accepted that.
