“After a court order, we opened the locker and found around 9.7 kilograms of gold belonging to the former prime minister,” a senior CIC official told

and asked not to be named.
The confiscated items included gold coins, bars and jewelry.
Investigators said Hasina failed to deposit some gifts received while in office into the state treasury, known as “Toshakhana,” as required by law.
The Bangladesh National Board of Revenue is also investigating alleged tax evasion and checking if Hasina reported the confiscated gold in tax filings.
Since the end of Hasina’s reign, Bangladesh has been in political turmoil.
Violence has colored the campaign for elections which are expected to take place in February 2026.
Earlier this month, Bangladesh’s International Criminal Court sentenced Hasina to death for a deadly crackdown on a student-led rebellion.
The death sentence was handed down after Hasina was ousted in August 2024 for violence committed against students which brought down her rule.
The United Nations (UN) also said as many as 1,400 people were killed in the crackdown as Hasina defended her position. This death rate is a main aspect of the trial.
According to Judge Golam Mortuza Mozumder, who handled the case, Hasina was found guilty of three charges, namely incitement, ordering to kill, and not preventing the violence.
