Chung did not identify the three people by name.He only said they were arrested on “suspected murder.”
The government meanwhile named the contractor listed as the party responsible for the building, namely Prestige Construction and Engineering Company.
A fire broke out in an apartment complex at Wang Fuk Court, Tai Po, Hong Kong, on Wednesday (26/11).The fire spread quickly and engulfed the buildings which were still under construction.
As many as 55 people died in this fire as of Thursday (27/11).
Former Head of the Buildings Division at the Hong Kong Institute of Engineers, Tony Za, said burning nets were likely the cause of the fire spreading quickly.
The net is usually made of fiber and plastic.Netting is usually used to keep construction materials and other objects from falling from bamboo scaffolding.
In Hong Kong, bamboo scaffolding is often used when renovating buildings, especially the exterior.
The net material should not be flammable.Contractors in Hong Kong must have a certificate to ensure this.
However, looking at the fire video circulating, Za cannot deny that the netting in the building construction does not appear to meet standards, as quoted by the New York Times.
