and Kiai Anwar Iskandar is said to be a strong candidate for general chairman of the Indonesian Ulema Council (
MUI
) 2025-2030 in the XI National Conference (Munas) in Ancol, Jakarta 21-23 November.
This was conveyed by the Chairman of the MUI for Information and Communication, Kiai Masduki Baidlowi, quoted from the official website mui.or.id, entering the second day of the National Conference, Saturday (22/11).
Masduki said that the two of them were the figures most expected by the National Conference participants to return as general chairman.

“Until now, if we ask the participants of the National Conference, it comes down to two things, namely that the advisory board is still the same, the general chairman is still the same, namely General Chairman Kiai Anwar Iskandar and Chairman of the Advisory Council Kiai Ma’ruf Amin.
Anwar currently serves as General Chair of the MUI as a result of the previous National Conference.Meanwhile, Ma’ruf is the former General Chair for the 2015-2020 period.However, he quit in 2019 when he became vice president accompanying Joko Widodo.
According to Masduki, in selecting new management, the representation of religious mass organizations is an aspect that is taken into account.This aspect is important to maintain harmony in the implementation of elections.
He said, the main principle in elections is deliberation to reach consensus.With that, he continued, the election would take place in an orderly and peaceful manner.
“The main principle in determining management is deliberation and consensus.”So we prioritize deliberation and consensus,” he said.
The Chairman of Wantim and the General Chair of the MUI will be elected by a formation team consisting of 19 people.They will be selected from representatives of universities, Islamic boarding schools, and representatives of religious organizations.
Until this news was written, 19 formators were deliberating to determine the MUI leader for the 2025-2030 period.The format consists of three elements from the outgoing Central MUI Leadership Council (general chairman, general secretary and general treasurer).
Then one person from the Advisory Council;seven people from elements of the Provincial MUI Leadership Council;six leadership elements of Islamic organizations consisting of NU and Muhamadiyah as permanent elements;and other mass organizations proportionally/alternately.
Then, one person from Muslim scholars/Islamic universities and one from Islamic boarding schools.
