“Regarding naturalization, I definitely studied Indonesian football, including the attitude of the spectators. It has been two years since several naturalized players have appeared,” said Kapadze on the sidelines of a visit to the Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta, Friday (21/11).
“For me, they are already part of the team. Whether local or naturalized players are mentally ready for Indonesia,” Kapadze added.
More than 10 players of official descent have become naturalized Indonesian players over the last two years.Starting from Jay Idzes, Calvin Verdonk, Maarten Paes, to Mauro Zijlstra and Miliano Jonathans.
The presence of these top naturalized players has indeed helped boost Indonesia’s strength in the international arena.Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and China have bowed to the Garuda troops.
Unfortunately, the progress of the Indonesian National Team had to stop in the fourth qualifying round.Patrick Kluivert’s team is certain to be eliminated after suffering two consecutive defeats to Saudi Arabia and Iraq in the group phase.
Even so, Kapadze is no stranger to the naturalization program.Uzbekistan also did something similar in the 2000s.
“In Uzbekistan, in the 2000s Uzbekistan invited four to five naturalized players from Russia but over time it was not successful.”
“But for me, whether they are ready to defend the Indonesian flag or not, that is the only determining factor,” said Kapadze.
