“One of our production houses can supply five to 15 MBG kitchens,” said Cucup in a written statement on Tuesday (18/11).
“Soybean farmers are increasingly alive, tempe producers are developing, local workers are being absorbed, and the food processing industry is entering the orbit of national policy,” he added.
Cucup said that his small business could now go global. Most recently, he signed a memorandum of understanding on trade with companies from Saudi Arabia and Chile.

One of the points of cooperation is the delivery of three containers of frozen tempeh per month to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and 12 containers per year to Chile.
“I never thought I could export,” he said.
According to Cucup, the success of raising his small kitchen to the global stage was not only due to his perseverance, but also the support of the government, society and the market.
Cucup’s business journey began in 2005 with his older brother. He invited tempe craftsmen to improve management and improve product quality so that turnover could grow.He briefly expanded the Azaki market to Kalimantan, but his business was stagnant for almost a decade.
The turning point came in 2016. Cucup decided to learn again from scratch about tempeh, production management and industry standards.
He completed various licensing documents such as halal certificates and BPOM food safety certificates. He even tried making tempeh chips, but the product was not well accepted by the market.
Cucup expanded his network, studying with a modern tofu producer, Rumah Tempe Indonesia, and studying with a tempeh expert, Made Astawan.
A great opportunity came when the Covid-19 pandemic hit. When many businesses were hit, the licensing process shifted to a digital system, making it easier to process documents that were previously complicated.
“The pandemic has actually made everything easier because everything is online. It really helped me,” said Cucup.
Since then, Azaki tempeh production has continued to increase due to high demand, including from foreign companies.MSMEs like Azaki, which previously only relied on small kitchens, have finally transformed into global players.
Demand for tempeh for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program also boosted Cucup’s income.Azaki now supplies tempeh as a source of vegetable protein for hundreds of MBG kitchens in more than 15 cities in the country.
“One of our production houses can supply five to 15 MBG kitchens,” said Cucup.
For this reason, Cucup believes that MBG is opening a new value chain, namely soybean farmers are becoming more viable, tempe producers are developing, local workers are being absorbed, and the food processing industry is increasingly entering the orbit of national policy.
