FIFA: Malaysian Naturalized Player Wrongly Says He’s From Grandparents

International Football Federation (
FIFA
) issued an official statement regarding the investigation of a naturalized Malaysian player who was suspected of violating Article 22 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code (FDC) regarding falsification of documents.
In the report submitted by FIFA to FAM on Monday (17/11), the player referred to as “Player 1” was wrong when answering about his family origins.
Initially, the player said that his grandfather was from Venezuela and his grandmother from Spain.

However, not long after, he corrected his statement and said that his grandmother was from Malaysia.
FIFA explained that the player was also unable to show copies of documents previously submitted to his agent while attending a dinner with his father.
Therefore, examination could only be carried out on a few documents, namely the birth certificate of his grandmother, Maria Belen Concepcion Martin (born 16 May 1956), which FAM sent as part of the investigation into eligibility for naturalization.
Then the birth certificate obtained directly by the FIFA administration and the birth certificate issued by the Malaysian government.
According to FIFA, Player 1’s statement is considered very important.When asked about his grandmother’s birthplace, he first answered “Spain”, then quickly corrected it to “Malaysia”.
“My grandfather was born in Venezuela and my grandmother in Spain… I mean Malaysia, sorry,” FIFA wrote in documents provided to FAM quoted from

Previously, FAM was fined CHF 350,000 by FIFA in connection with this case.Meanwhile, the seven players involved, namely Gabriel Palmero, Facundo Garcés, Rodrigo Holgado, Imanol Machuca, João Figueiredo, Jon Irazábal, and Hector Hevel each received a fine of CHF 2,000 and were banned from football activities for 12 months.
