local products

Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Maman Abdurrahman said that his party had consolidated 1,300 local brands which would be sold by traders in exchange for imported used clothes.
“(1,300 brands) are various. There are clothes, trousers, shoes, sandals, so in total there are 1,300 brands,” he said after a meeting at the Ministry of Trade, Central Jakarta, Monday (17/11).

Maman said that his party is currently still talking to traders of imported used clothes about wanting to switch to local products.He said the government wants to ensure that traders’ business activities continue even though importing second-hand clothes is prohibited.
“They will just walk, but over time the product supply will definitely run low. Well, we can’t let that happen. That’s why we will replace it with local brand products,” he said.
Previously, Deputy for Small Business at the Ministry of UMKM, Temmy Satya Permana, said that imported used clothing traders at Senen Market agreed to sell local products if facilitated by the government.
Temmy said that traders said it was not easy to make the switch straight away because they had been selling imported second-hand clothes for decades.However, they are committed to starting selling local products gradually.
“They have been selling imported used clothes for years, and now we have to try to switch to new commodities, this will definitely take time,” said Temmy.
Not only Senen Market traders, Temmy said that the Ministry of MSMEs will also soon meet with imported used clothing traders at Gedebage Market, Bandung.The aim is the same, to provide an understanding of the intentions of government policy.
“We will also meet in Gedebage later. What is certain is that we are coordinating with the Regional Government to start collecting data on how many imported second-hand clothing traders there actually are throughout Indonesia, the exact number, so that we can prepare a backup system as to what it will be like,” he explained.
