According to Okki, one method that is often used is sending Christmas greeting messages accompanied by a file or link in the form of a fake gift application (APK).The application contains malware that can record customers’ personal data, including banking information, when downloaded and used.
“If a customer downloads the application or fills in personal data in it, the perpetrator can use this information to access the account and steal the customer’s balance,” he explained.
BNI urges customers not to carelessly click on links or download files from unknown sources, and to always verify the authenticity of messages received.Apart from that, customers are asked to never share confidential banking data, such as card number, CVV/CVC, PIN, or One Time Password (OTP) with any party.
“Make sure the device is equipped with antivirus, the system is always updated, and only use official applications downloaded through trusted platforms,” added Okki.
Okki also invites all customers to remain smart and alert in digital transactions.”Don’t just click. Let’s together maintain the security of data and banking transactions. Merry Christmas to those who celebrate,” concluded Okki.
By increasing collective vigilance, BNI hopes that all customers can avoid the risk of cyber crime and continue to make transactions safely, comfortably and responsibly amidst increasing digital activity towards the end of the year.
