A total of 16,078 Christian inmates received remission or reduced sentences
Christmas 2025.
Among the tens of thousands of prisoners who received Christmas remission were 151 inmates.Apart from that, there were also more than a hundred prisoners who were immediately released, because they received special remission.
“The government, through the Directorate General of Corrections, provided Christmas Special Remission (RK) to 15,927 convicts as well as a Christmas Special Remission (PMPK) to 151 inmates who had met the requirements in accordance with statutory provisions,” said Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Indrianto in a written statement, Wednesday (24/12).

“Of this number, 174 convicts were immediately released after receiving the RK,” he continued.
Agus said that the provision of Christmas RK and PMPK also reflected the application of the principles of justice and non-discrimination, as well as strengthening the best interests of assisted children.
From an institutional perspective, this policy helps create a more conducive coaching climate and reduces crowding in Correctional Institutions (Lapas) and Special Child Development Institutions (LPKA).
Agus emphasized that the Remission and PMP policies are a form of the state’s presence in guaranteeing the rights of inmates, including those who are Christians and Catholics.This policy is also part of a development system that is oriented towards humanity and recovery.
“This is not just a reduction in criminal time, but is a form of appreciation for achievement, dedication and discipline in participating in coaching. This is a coaching instrument to encourage better behavior, strengthen motivation, and prepare inmates to be ready to return and play a positive role in society,” he added.

, Agus also advised the inmates to use family as motivation to stay on God’s path and continue to improve themselves.
“Be responsible for all your actions. Be responsible for your wife, children, husband and parents. Don’t do anything that is detrimental to them, let alone repeat the same mistakes,” he said.
Remissions make countries save money
Meanwhile, the Director General of Corrections, Mashudi, explained that the provision of Christmas RK and PMPK also contributed to the efficiency of the state budget.
The total savings in food costs for prisoners and assisted children was recorded at Rp. 9,478,462,500 (Rp. 9.4 billion).
Apart from that, he said that the RK and PMPK recipients had fulfilled the administrative and substantive requirements in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
Apart from that, the process is claimed to be carried out according to an accountable and transparent mechanism.
“All recipients of the Remission and Reduction of the Special Christmas Crime Period are inmates who have good behavior, actively participate in the coaching program, and show reduced risk,” said Mashudi.
