female
Indonesia.National data shows that every 25 minutes, one woman dies from this disease.
In fact, around 90 percent of cervical cancer cases can actually be prevented through HPV vaccination and routine screening.
Human Papillomavirus (HPV) is the main cause of cervical cancer. This viral infection often occurs without symptoms, so many women are not aware of the risk until the disease has progressed to an advanced stage. Therefore, early prevention efforts are the most crucial step.

The Deputy Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia, Benjamin Paulus Oktavianus, emphasized the importance of vaccination as a form of long-term protection. He reminded the public to take advantage of the free HPV vaccination program for girls in grades 5 and 6 of elementary school which has been running since 2023.
This program is said to be an investment in future health whose impact can be felt for decades to come.
“HPV infection is the main cause of cervical cancer and can be prevented with complete vaccination,” said Benjamin in a written statement, Wednesday (24/12).
Efforts to accelerate women’s protection also come from the Indonesian Obstetrics and Gynecology Association (POGI).Through the national movement SPRIN (Save Indonesian Women), POGI initiated Simultaneous HPV Vaccination on a provincial scale.
This activity is part of the SPRIN launch series on National Mother’s Day 2025. Simultaneous HPV vaccination was held in one day in six locations covering five administrative cities and the Seribu Islands Regency.
The target is more than 500 vaccine recipients, as well as breaking the Indonesian Museum of Records (MURI) record for the category ‘Most Simultaneous HPV Vaccinations in DKI Jakarta’.
POGI General Chair, Budi Wiweko, called this activity a concrete step towards global targets.
“This is real, fast and structured action towards the WHO target of eliminating cervical cancer, as well as being a national pilot project for SPRIN before it is expanded to other provinces in 2026-2029,” he said at a vaccination activity in Jakarta, 23 December.
Support also comes from the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government. The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, emphasized that disease prevention is a long-term investment for the community.
“We have various programs, such as free health checks, vaccinations for elementary school students, and White Army Services for vulnerable groups,” he said.
