The Regent of Aceh Tamiang, Armia Fahmi, said that using river routes is a quick solution so that aid distribution continues, especially to areas that cannot yet be accessed by land.
“We are maximizing river routes to ensure that logistical assistance continues to reach isolated areas, while continuing to restore road infrastructure,” Armia told reporters, Tuesday (23/12).
His party is currently continuing to strive to accelerate post-disaster recovery. One of the main focuses is to reopen access to these isolated villages.
Previously, several roads in Aceh Tamiang were reported to have suffered serious damage with the soil being so soft that it was unable to support vehicles carrying aid.
One of the accesses that is now starting to recover is the road to Tanjong Geulumpang Village, Sekerak District, which was built by Yonzipur Kodam Iskandar Muda personnel.
Apart from ensuring logistics distribution to outlying areas, the regional government has also stepped up mud cleaning in the center of the capital city of Kuala Simpang. This effort is being made so that public facilities and community activities can quickly return to normal.
Cleaning focused on vital facilities such as hospitals, health service centers, schools, main roads and residential areas which were badly affected.
Regarding aid, Armia emphasized that the distribution will not only be in the form of basic materials, but also medicines.
“The distribution of aid to isolated areas also includes medicines. We are paying special attention to vulnerable groups, namely children, pregnant women, toddlers and the elderly, so that their health remains well monitored,” he said.
