In the modern era it becomes more important because it is facing sustainability.Puan said women have an important role in protecting the earth and its future for future generations.
This was revealed by Puan at The Big Idea Forum: Mothers of the Earth which took place at the National Museum, Jakarta, to commemorate Mother’s Day 2025 which falls today, Monday (22/12).
“Mother’s Day which we commemorate in Indonesia is a celebration of the revival of the Indonesian women’s movement, a spirit that we inherit and commemorate every December 22 to emphasize that women are not spectators, but active actors in various areas of life.”

“That including women in the development process is not just an affirmative policy, but is an awareness of respect for human dignity,” said Puan in her speech.
Puan then touched on the big role of women in development.Puan said the role of women is very big in maintaining sustainability.
“Including women in the development process today is even more important, considering that we are currently facing sustainability together,” said Puan.
“The issue of sustainability is an issue about survival. The issue is about whether our children in the future will still be able to enjoy the fresh air that we breathe now, the issue about whether our great-grandchildren will still be able to see the natural beauty of Indonesia,” added Puan.
Women Protector of the Earth
In the midst of today’s disruption and future challenges, the role of women called Puan is very large.Puan said women have a very important role so that future generations can have a decent life.
“In fact, sustainability is not only about natural issues, because when we talk about sustainability issues, we also have to talk about issues of social inequality, economic inequality, providing a decent life for all humans and so on,” said Puan.
“As mothers of the earth, women have a role in protecting the earth and the future of future generations. Women’s big role in sustainability does not appear suddenly, it is born from life experience, social responsibility, and women’s closeness to the sources of life,” he said.
Puan then encouraged more women to become part of the ‘decision makers’.Puan considers that by being decision makers, women can have an influence on the sustainability of the lives of the Indonesian people.
“We women need more women to become decision makers, who can influence the sustainability of nature and the lives of the Indonesian people. Women need more women to make decisions that can preserve nature and the welfare of the Indonesian people,” said Puan.
“For example, decisions regarding spatial planning, forestry energy and water are decisions that really determine the future of the earth and women must always be present in this room. Apart from that, we can also develop many big ideas that cannot be implemented because there is no alignment in their implementation,” said Puan.
The Big Idea Forum: Mothers of the Earth is a forum organized by hitclubapk3 Indonesia by presenting female speakers who are prominent in their respective fields to show the strength of Indonesian women.
Apart from the Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, The Big Idea Forum: Mothers of the Earth also presented the UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Water Issues Retno Marsudi, Head of Indonesia Heritage Agency Indira Setiyanti Nurjadin, Deputy Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Veronica Tan, and Chair of the Sustainable Environmental Bamboo Foundation Monica Tanuhandaru.
Apart from that, also present were the Founder and Chair of the CT Arsa Foundation Anita Tanjung, and the Editor-in-Chief of hitclubapk3 Indonesia Titin Rosmasari.
