“The AFC Nations League is an important step in our ongoing commitment to support the development of the 47 AFC Member Associations,” said Datuk Seri Windsor, quoted from the AFC’s official website.
It is also hoped that this competition can overcome the problem of a national team in Asia finding a suitable trial opponent.
High operational costs and the lack of competitive value in a match often make international matches lose their essence.AFC doesn’t want to let this drag on.
“By providing a structured competition platform for FIFA’s international match window, along with greater calendar stability and clear sporting incentives, we aim to ensure consistent access to high-quality matches while overcoming the logistical and cost challenges faced by national teams,” he added.
The presence of the Asian Nations League is also expected to attract large sponsors from the commercial side.
“In addition to the sporting benefits, we are also seeing strong interest and growing demand from commercial partners for Nations League-style competitions,” said Windsor.
This model competition has already been held in Europe.Further details regarding the competition format and schedule will be determined further at the AFC committee and stakeholder meeting.
