met in Miami, USA, to discuss the Russia-Ukraine war.The meeting took place amid calls by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for Washington to increase pressure on Moscow to end the conflict.
The meeting on Saturday (20/12) was attended by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, as well as US President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner.

“The discussions are proceeding constructively. The meeting started previously and will continue today and tomorrow,” he said, quoted by Aljazeera.
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said he might join the meeting in Miami.
He said there had been progress toward ending the war, but there was still much to be done.
“Our role is to find out if there is common ground that both parties can agree on. We have devoted a lot of time and energy to that, and will continue to do so. Maybe that can’t be achieved yet, but I hope it can be resolved this month, before the end of the year,” said Rubio.
The meeting in Miami came after Putin vowed to continue his military offensive in Ukraine, while praising the success of Russian troops at his annual press conference.
Putin had said that Russia could postpone a major attack to give Ukraine a chance to hold presidential elections. However, Zelensky rejected the proposal.
Trump’s envoys are known to have been negotiating a 20-point peace plan with Ukrainian, Russian and European officials for several weeks.Although US officials say there is progress, major differences remain over the occupied territories and security guarantees that Kyiv considers crucial to reaching a deal.
Russia itself has not shown any signs of being willing to reduce its territorial demands in Ukraine because it considers that its position on the battlefield is still strong, while European support for Ukraine is starting to divide.
Meanwhile, Zelensky said he remained supportive of the US-led negotiation process. However, he emphasized that diplomacy must be accompanied by stronger pressure on Russia.
Zelensky also said that Washington was proposing a new format for talks in the form of a tripartite meeting between national security advisers from Ukraine, Russia and the US.
He said he doubted the talks would produce “anything new”, but said he would still support progress such as a prisoner-of-war exchange or leadership-level meeting.
“If the meeting could be held now to allow for a prisoner exchange, or if the meeting of security advisers could pave the way for a meeting of leaders… I can’t say no. We would support the US proposal. Let’s see how it develops,” Zelensky said.
