Thailand’s national volleyball team star, Kissada Nilsawai, has openly said that salaries for volleyball players in Thailand are bad. This was revealed after he succeeded in bringing Thailand to win a gold medal
SEA Games 2025
.
Thailand won a gold medal in men’s volleyball at the 2025 SEA Games on Friday (19/12).This certainty was obtained after Thailand won dramatically 3-2 (25-20, 16-25, 25-23, 23-25 and 15-12) over Indonesia in the final match.
One of Thailand’s mainstay players, Kissada Nilsawai, hopes that volleyball in Thailand can be given more attention by both policy makers and fans.

“I want everyone to take part in professional volleyball or other tournaments too, so that there will be sponsors and volleyball can develop further into a true profession that allows athletes to retire while playing this sport,” said Kissada regarding the lives of men’s volleyball players, quoted from

.
“But [Thai volleyball] hasn’t reached that level yet. If you really interview professional volleyball players, their salaries are very low. Try pointing a microphone in their faces and asking them to be honest,” said Kissada, exposing the problem of low salaries as professional volleyball players in Thailand.
This player who is familiar with Yamine said that the salaries of Thai volleyball players are very bad.He admitted that he would have to work in a supermarket if there was no competition.
“The situation was very bad, for example, I played volleyball for three months, then had to work in a supermarket for about seven months, and then went back to playing volleyball again. It was that bad,” said Kissada.
“This happens in many sports. I hope the government or the private sector will provide more serious support so that more people play volleyball. If I stop playing, I don’t know what the team will be like. I don’t know if they will find someone like me, with my cheerful personality, someone with my style and height. It’s hard to find people like that,” added Kissada.
For this reason, this 33 year old player born in Samut Prakan, Thailand, wants the future of Thai volleyball to have a brighter future.
“That’s why I want children to have hope in playing sports, so that their families can have a comfortable life and retire while playing volleyball,” Kissada said.
Even when they have now won a gold medal at the 2025 SEA Games, Thai players only get a bonus of 300,000 baht per person or IDR 159 million.
But, if they don’t make it or don’t win any medals for the Thai national volleyball team, the income from their athlete allowance is barely enough to cover their living expenses from paycheck to paycheck.
“I will leave the national team and only play in the (Nakhon Ratchasima Quminsee VC) league. If they want me to come back to play, I have to think about it first,” said Kissada.
