“Public attention is currently focused on South Tangerang City in handling waste. We want to ensure that the South Tangerang City Government has implemented the stages set by the Minister,” said Hanifah at the location.
Hanifah said that the central government is also obliged to help regions in solving the waste problem. Therefore, his party will coordinate across ministries and institutions, including the Ministry of PUPR and the Ministry of Home Affairs, to map out handling scenarios in emergency conditions.
He emphasized that waste handling in South Tangerang must be carried out comprehensively, from upstream to downstream.Currently, South Tangerang has 54 3R TPS, two TPST, and more than 400 waste banks that need to be optimized.
“This situation must become a momentum for the transformation of waste management by involving all parties, including the central government, regional governments and the community,” he said.
Regarding the operational closure of the Cipeucang landfill, Hanifah explained that according to the sanctions, within 180 days a new landfill should be available and all open dumping areas should be closed (capping) to prevent further pollution. However, in its implementation there were a number of obstacles, including the failure of cooperation plans with other regions.
“We will report this condition to the Minister. We hope that there will be an extension of time so that the closure of the landfill is carried out appropriately and does not cause environmental impacts,” he said.
Hanifah added that the South Tangerang City Government is also exploring waste management cooperation with other regions, including Serang City.In addition, strengthening waste sorting at source is the key to reducing the management burden at landfills.
Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor of South Tangerang Pilar Saga Ichsan said that the visit of the Deputy of the Ministry of Environment was aimed at reviewing the progress of the arrangement of the Cipeucang TPA area which is currently underway.
“The arrangement includes improving road access, building gabions, as well as plans to build a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) facility,” said Pilar.
He said that the South Tangerang City Government has prepared around 4,000 square meters of land for the construction of a hangar and MRF which is planned to begin construction next year.Apart from that, land acquisition of one hectare was also carried out in preparation for the Waste to Electrical Energy (PSEL) Processing project.
Pilar added that the South Tangerang City Government continues to encourage the community’s active role in managing household waste.Through the latest mayor’s regulations, RW heads are appointed as waste bank coordinators in their respective neighborhoods, with the village head and sub-district head as supervisors.
“Tangsel’s waste management must run from upstream to downstream. Sorting and reducing waste from households is the key to success,” said Pilar.
It is known that the accumulation of rubbish in South Tangerang was triggered by the temporary closure of the Cipeucang TPA for around 10 days due to the restructuring and normalization of waste-covered waterways and rivers.
The arrangement process is expected to take up to one month. As a temporary solution, waste was diverted to 54 TPS3R with a capacity of 99 tons per day and two TPSTs with a capacity of 14 tons per day, so that waste services continued to run.
KLH/BPLH emphasized that handling Cimanggis Market waste is part of efforts to strengthen urban waste management that is responsive, collaborative and oriented towards protecting the health and environment of the community.
