.Residents are asked to report if they know of the potential for fallen trees in their area.
“We urge the public to remain alert, avoid activities under trees during strong winds, and play an active role in reporting the potential dangers of trees in the surrounding environment through the contact person at the fallen tree post,” said Head of the DKI Jakarta Forest Service, M. Fajar explained that based on information and early warnings from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the potential for extreme weather in the form of heavy rain accompanied by strong winds is predicted to continue from December to January 2026.
Therefore, he said, mitigation efforts are carried out in a sustainable manner through pre-extreme weather, during extreme weather and post-extreme weather approaches.
In the pre-extreme weather stage, periodic checks are carried out on high-risk trees, such as trees that are old, slanted, or have hollow trunks.
In addition, crown balancing pruning, cleaning of dry branches, and tree health checks are carried out to detect potential dangers early.
“We handle risky trees based on the results of technical inspections and field data, starting from pruning to felling trees that are considered dangerous. This step is part of efforts to adapt to the increasing intensity of extreme weather in Jakarta,” he said.
As of early December 2025, it was recorded that 69,932 at-risk trees had been handled through various control measures, including light, medium and heavy pruning (topping), as well as felling trees that were considered very dangerous.
Tree health checks are also continuously carried out as part of early prevention efforts.
“When extreme weather occurs, we also activate the Falling Tree Alert Team in all administrative city areas. Monitoring is carried out in real-time by referring to BMKG warnings and community reports,” he said.
Handling is prioritized for fallen trees that threaten the safety of residents and disrupt main road access.
Meanwhile, in the post-extreme weather stage, evacuation and cleaning of fallen tree material, inventory of damaged trees, and analysis of the causes of tree fall are carried out.
“As a follow-up, replanting was carried out with tree species that are more adaptive to strong winds and high rainfall, accompanied by the preparation of an evaluation report,” he said.
