.The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences on Wednesday (16/12) US time announced the short list of 12 categories for the upcoming 98th Academy Awards.
The chart-topping hit, Golden, from Netflix’s most-watched film was sung by HUNTR/X (EJAE, Audrey Nuna, Rei Ami) and was shortlisted for Best Original Song.

Given the popularity of the film and song, Golden posed a serious threat to the other music contenders on the shortlist.
This year’s shortlist consisted of 15 songs selected from a total of 65 eligible candidates, with the shortlist and nominees determined by voting by the Music Branch of the Academy.
Another song that is also a strong candidate is Dream as One by Miley Cyrus from the film Avatar: Fire and Ash, written by Cyrus, Andrew Wyatt and Mark Ronson.Even though the film hasn’t been released yet, the huge box office expectations leading up to Oscar voting make this song worth paying attention to.

Warner Bros appeared strong with two songs from Sinners that were on the short list, namely Last Time (I Seen the Sun) performed by Alice Smith and Miles Caton.
Another song is I Lied to You, sung by Caton, which was named Best Song at the Hollywood Music Media Awards and was also nominated for a Golden Globe.
Additionally, Warner Bros. has F1: The Movie with Apple Original Films.Ed Sheeran’s Drive made the list, although another contender, Don Toliver’s Lose My Mind featuring Doja Cat, was not nominated.
Sinners, however, is not the only Warner Bros. film.who received two nominations.In a result that was actually predictable, Wicked: For Good managed to win two nominations with the song The Girl in the Bubble sung by Glinda (Ariana Grande), and Elphaba’s (Cynthia Erivo) national song, No Place Like Home.

The Best Original shortlist will be curated and narrowed down to just five with the announcement of Oscar nominations on January 2, 2026.
The nomination round of voting took place from February 26 to March 5, with the Academy Awards ceremony taking place on March 15, 2026.
