launched an attack on United Nations peacekeeping forces (
UN
) in Lebanon (UNIFIL) while they were patrolling along the Blue Line.
Citing the Middle East Monitor website, international forces said in a statement that Israeli soldiers fired a barrage of machine gun bullets from Merkava tanks above and near the patrol.

“One ten-round machine gun burst was fired over the convoy, and four other ten-round rounds were fired nearby,” UNIFIL said in a statement, quoted from
Middle East Monitor
.
The Israeli army was informed in advance about the location and time of the patrol, in accordance with usual procedures in sensitive areas near the Blue Line.
Local authorities confirmed that neither Israeli patrol teams nor tanks were in Lebanese territory at the time, and that no peacekeepers were injured.
“Neither peacekeepers nor IDF tanks were in Lebanon at the time. Fortunately, no one was injured,” the statement said.
UNIFIL also added that its personnel immediately used the mission’s communication channel to call on the Israeli army to immediately stop shooting.
“The peacekeepers asked the IDF (Israeli army) to stop shooting through the UNIFIL liaison channel.”
Attacks on or near peacekeeping forces constitute a serious violation of Security Council resolution 1701.
“In this highly sensitive situation, we call on the IDF to cease aggressive behavior and attacks on or around peacekeepers working to restore stability along the Blue Line,” he wrote.

Israel carries out regular attacks in Lebanon despite a ceasefire.
They typically say the targets of the attacks are locations and members linked to Hezbollah, which they accuse of rearming.
