A number of districts and cities in North Sumatra, Aceh and West Sumatra were hit by flash floods and landslides on November 25, 2025.
In total, almost a thousand people were found dead in the three provinces and hundreds of residents were still missing.Apart from that, the number of refugees has exceeded one million, and there are still isolated areas to this day.
Meanwhile, citing information received from the Health Crisis Center of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) as of Thursday (11/12) afternoon, all 41 hospitals (RS) in 18 Regencies/Cities have begun operating in stages to serve residents.

In a video recording uploaded to the Ministry of Health’s Instagram account, Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin stated, “The total number of refugees from this disaster has almost reached one million people [data as of 9 December 2025].”
“Victims with minor and serious injuries reached almost 9 thousand people. This is a huge humanitarian disaster,” he added.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Health stated that it was still working on the re-operation of more than 300 Community Health Centers in 18 districts/cities.The Ministry of Health stated that these community health centers were needed as health posts serving more than two thousand refugee camps.
In this upload, Budi explained a number of important steps that the Ministry of Health’s Health Crisis Center is trying to fulfill.
“The most important first step is to immediately operate 41 hospitals and 343 health centers in these 3 provinces to serve affected communities or refugees, and the general public can immediately function normally,” said Budi.
Some of the hospitals that are starting to gradually restore their services include the Aceh Tamiang and Langsa Regional Hospitals.
Budi said there were also things that the Health Crisis Center had to ensure, from equipment to medical personnel.
“We have to make sure that electricity and oxygen are available. After that we have to clean the hospitals and health centers which are full of mud. We also have to make sure that the existing equipment operates normally, because many of the equipment that has been submerged is damaged and needs to be repaired, and there are also some that can no longer be used at all,” added Budi.
He also stressed to ensure delivery of necessary consumables and medicines.Apart from that, it is no less important, his party ensures adequate assistance from medical personnel (nakes) as providers of emergency or specialist services as needed.
Based on data from the Health Crisis Center, preliminary calculation results – as of Thursday (11/12) – require around 709 volunteer health workers to support RSUD operations in the 6 affected districts/cities.In addition, around 845 volunteer health workers are needed to support the operations of Community Health Centers in the 6 affected districts/cities.
They will rotate duties every two weeks.

The National Disaster Management Agency, in a press conference, Thursday (11/12), reported the latest data as of December 11 2025, the number of fatalities due to flash floods and landslides reached 990 people.In detail, 407 victims who died were found in Aceh Province, 343 victims were in North Sumatra, and 240 victims were found in West Sumatra.
Meanwhile, the number of people reported missing as of Thursday reached 225 people.
Then, the total aid that has entered Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra from 28 November to 11 December 2025 is 498 tons.Of that figure, 351.4 tons have been distributed to various regions via land, sea and air.
