DPR Commission IV
agreed to immediately form a Working Committee (Panja) for land conversion in response to the tragedy
flood and landslide disasters

This agreement was one of the concluding points in a meeting with Forestry Minister Raja Juli Antoni, Thursday (4/12).
The Panja will start working after the end of the recess period in early 2026.

“Commission IV of the DPR RI will form a Working Committee or Panja for Land Conversion as a response to the massive number of cases of land conversion that violate provisions,” said the Chair of Commission IV of the DPR, Siti Hediati Hariyadi or Titiek Soeharto.
Based on the conclusions of the meeting, Commission IV encouraged the Ministry of Forestry to evaluate forest management throughout Indonesia.
The meeting also encouraged the Ministry of Forestry to immediately rehabilitate forests in critical land areas.This effort is to restore ecological functions and increase the carrying capacity of the environment.
Commission IV, Titiek continued, also urged the Ministry of Forestry to immediately take action against companies holding permits that were proven to have contributed to flooding in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
Finally, Commission IV of the DPR urged the Ministry of Forestry to take firm steps by prohibiting and stopping all tree felling activities in natural forests.
“In accordance with Article 61 of the Indonesian DPR Regulations on Rules of Procedure, it is stated that decisions and conclusions of working meetings are binding between the DPR and the government and must be implemented,” said Titiek.
“Therefore, we reaffirm that all commitments and follow-up actions conveyed at the meeting must be realized consistently, not stop with mere statements,” he added.
