Previously, a letter summoning Gunretno to be questioned by the Central Java Regional Police circulated on social media. The Kendeng environmental activist was summoned for questioning in Unit 1 Sub-Directorate IV of the Central Java Regional Police’s Criminal Investigation Department.
In the written letter, the case begins with Information Report Number: LI/152/XI/RES.5.5./2025/Ditreskrimsus dated 18 November 2025 regarding a Complaint Letter in the name of Didik Setiyo Utomo dated 5 November 2025, regarding complaints of obstructing mining business activities that have permits.
Separately, Gunretno when asked for clarification regarding accusations of obstructing mining in the Kendeng Mountains area, answered, “He said [he] was reported [to the police].”
“That’s the accusation in the letter of obstructing mining. Indeed, I have always disliked mining,” added Gunretno, last Wednesday.
At that time, Gunretno, who confirmed that he would come to answer the police summons, admitted that he did not know who reported him.
On Thursday morning, Rieke in a press release said that in the report Gun was complained about by Didik Setiyo Utomo because he was deemed to be obstructing mining business activities that had a permit.
Rieke then highlighted the status of the Kendeng karst which is currently critical due to lime mining.Karst mining, he said, is strongly suspected of causing flooding, damage to unique ecosystems and loss of people’s livelihoods.
According to him, currently there are at least 17 mining activities operating in the Kendeng Karst Area. However, according to data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, only 3 mines are registered in Momi’s data.
“Two of them are still Reserve Areas (WIUP) but strangely there are already mining activities. The rest are illegal mines,” he said.
“The mining location is close to residential areas. From the image analysis carried out by JMPPK, there is a total of 31.4 hectares of mining area,” added Rieke.
Therefore, he asked all parties to supervise the investigation process carried out by the Central Java Regional Police on Gun.On the other hand, he also requested that there be an evaluation and strict sanctions against mining business actors in the Kendeng karst area.
“Supporting the National Police Reform Team to monitor and oversee the investigation of Gun Gunarto, an environmental activist from the Sedulur Sikep Indigenous Community,” he said.
