The disaster also damaged at least 138 offices, 51 places of worship, 201 schools, 4 Islamic boarding schools, and 204 health facilities such as hospitals and health centers.Apart from that, there was damage to 302 roads, 152 bridges and 78,076 residents’ houses.
The areas worst affected by floods and landslides include North Aceh, Aceh Tamiang, Bireuen, Pidie Jaya, East Aceh, Bener Meriah and Central Aceh.A number of villages in the area are still isolated due to cut off road access.
Apart from land access, telecommunications, electricity and clean water networks have also been paralyzed in the past week since the disaster struck.
Spokesperson for the Aceh Disaster Emergency Response Post, Murthalamuddin, said that some of the affected areas were still difficult to reach due to damaged roads, bridges and communication networks.
“Communication problems are further exacerbated by the lack of electricity. Even though internet access is available via Starlink, devices still need power, and when the battery runs out, communication is lost again,” said Murthalamuddin.
He added that elements of Tagana, TNI and volunteers had continued to move since the beginning of the disaster. However, the biggest obstacle remains access to affected locations.
“The high level of mud makes the route impassable for vehicles,” he said.
