BMKG Earthquake and Tsunami Director Daryono said the tectonic earthquake had a center or epicenter in the ocean, 152 kilometers northwest of Tanimbar, West Southeast Maluku, Maluku. The epicenter of the earthquake below the earth’s surface or hypocenter was at a depth of 86 kilometers.
“The results of the BMKG analysis show that this earthquake has updated parameters with a magnitude of M5.2,” he said in a press release received, Sunday afternoon.
“By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a medium-sized earthquake due to intra-slab activity of the Banda Plate. The results of the source mechanism analysis show that the earthquake had a shear movement mechanism (
strike slip
),” he said.
He explained based on the estimated shock map (
shakemap
), the earthquake caused shaking in the area of Molu Maru, Wuar Labobar, Maktian, West Southeast Maluku with an intensity scale of III – IV MMI (When felt by many people in the house during the day).
“Until now there have been no reports of the impact of damage caused by the earthquake,” he said.
