371 Thousand Vehicles Enter Yogyakarta Ahead of Christmas

(DIY) recorded that 371,241 vehicles entered the province until the fourth day of Operation Lilin Progo 2025 ahead of the 2026 Christmas and New Year (Nataru) celebrations.
“The movement of people towards DIY ahead of Nataru is quite high. Based on the data we collected, a total of 371,241 vehicles entered,” said Head of Public Relations of the DIY Regional Police, Police Commissioner Ihsan in Yogyakarta, Wednesday (24/12), quoted from Antara.
Ihsan said the data was obtained from monitoring Smart Province CCTV cameras spread across eight border points between DIY and Central Java.Of all the entrances, Tempel was recorded as the busiest point with a volume of 111,349 vehicles, followed by the Kikis Joholanang intersection with 84,929 vehicles.

Ihsan further said that the flow of vehicles leaving the DIY area until the fourth day of operations was also observed to be high, reaching 354,671 vehicles.The Tempel Route was again the busiest point for outflow with 122,002 vehicles, followed by Prambanan with 98,819 vehicles.
According to Ihsan, the traffic density is dominated by two-wheeled vehicles and private cars.The busiest times are in the morning 06.00-10.00 WIB and in the afternoon 14.00-17.00 WIB.
“We urge motorists to anticipate crowds during these hours so that travel is more comfortable,” said Ihsan.
To maintain smooth traffic flow during Operation Lilin Progo 2025, Ihsan ensured that the DIY Regional Police continued to alert personnel at security posts and service posts at strategic points.
“If you feel tired, sleepy, or need travel route information, please stop at the nearest service post. Don’t force yourself to drive when your physical condition is not optimal,” said Ihsan.
Meanwhile, on social media, quite a few netizens complained about traffic jams in Yogyakarta ahead of Nataru.Yogyakarta is one of the favorite destinations for tourists to spend the Christmas holiday this time.
Previously, the Yogyakarta City Transportation Department predicted that as many as 7 million tourists would enter Yogyakarta City during the Christmas 2025 and New Year 2026 holidays.
