Volodymyr Zelensky called on the United States (US) to pressure Russia harder to stop the war.
This was conveyed by Zelensky on Saturday (20/12) during a meeting between the US special envoy and the Russian and Ukrainian delegations in Miami as a new effort to end the war.
Quoting AFP, Zelensky assessed that only the US was able to convince Russia to end the war.Therefore, he urged Washington to increase its pressure on Moscow to make this happen.

“America must say firmly: if not diplomacy, then there must be full pressure. Putin has not felt the pressure he should,” he said.
Zelensky also said that Washington had proposed the first face-to-face meeting between Ukraine and Russia in half a year.However, he doubts its effectiveness.
Zelensky’s remarks in Kyiv came at the same time as the arrival of Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev in Miami, where Ukrainian and European teams also gathered for talks mediated by US special envoy Steve Witkoff and US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
Dmitriev said the meeting was constructive.
“Talks have started, are continuing today, and will continue tomorrow,” he said.
Trump’s envoy is pushing a peace plan in which the US would provide security guarantees to Ukraine, but Kyiv would likely have to give up some of its territory.This is likely to be rejected by many Ukrainians.
However, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized on Friday that Washington would not force Ukraine to accept any deal.
