The plan proposed by Washington is said to exclude Europe.A number of European Union countries are reportedly worried because the proposal is seen as being able to end the war on terms that are too favorable to Russia.
Berlin even emphasized that the current front line should be the basis for any talks, different from the US plan which would directly hand over large areas of territory to Moscow.
Kremlin urges negotiations
Meanwhile, the Kremlin considers that victory is within reach, both through diplomacy and military force.Spokesman Dmitry Peskov advised Zelensky to immediately negotiate before Ukraine “loses more territory.”
“The space for freedom in decision-making is getting smaller as territory is lost,” AFP quoted Peskov as saying.
Moscow has also continued to call for Zelensky’s ouster since the invasion began.The US plan even contains provisions for Ukraine to hold elections within 100 days.
There is no official deadline for Kyiv to respond to the proposal.But Zelensky said he would speak directly with US President Donald Trump in the next few days.
The response of Ukrainian citizens and politicians was divided
In Kyiv, public attitudes are split.Some citizens believe that Ukraine should consider the proposal in order to improve its negotiating position.However, others consider the proposal to be nothing more than an invitation to surrender.
Yanina, a 41-year-old seamstress, said the plan would bring no results.”Neither we nor Russia will make concessions,” he said.
Meanwhile, many Ukrainian politicians did not hide their anger.”Being completely stunned has become normal for us,” one lawmaker told AFP.
