Trump has repeatedly used this label on various occasions. He continues to scare New Yorkers that the future of the largest city in the US will be bleak under Mamdani’s leadership.
Moreover, there is the added threat that Trump will withhold and limit federal funds for New York City.
Trump’s attack on Mamdani was basically a manifestation of the President’s fear of the ideology of the young cadres of the Democratic Party.
Mamdani openly declared himself a democratic socialist who brought progressive ideas such as setting high taxes for the rich, freezing rents, providing free bus services, and increasing the minimum wage for workers.
Trump has acknowledged that there are serious “concerns” among businesspeople about Mamdani’s leadership in NYC.Trump himself is a businessman.
Phillip Laffront, founder of hedge fund Coatue Management, also told
CNBC
that a number of wealthy investors likely intend to leave NYC if Mamdani is elected. They don’t want to take any chances in NYC.
“Some people will definitely leave,” Laffront said.
Mamdani’s democratic socialism is an ideology in which followers broadly support the government taking control of certain sectors of the economy, such as health care, for the benefit of the public, not private companies.
Mamdani is a longtime member of the Democratic Socialist Party of America (DSA).The DSA has been around since the 1980s and claims to be the largest socialist organization in the US.
According to the DSA, they are socialists because they reject an international economic order that is supported by things like private profit, discrimination and violence “in order to maintain the status quo”.
DSA dreams of a more just and humane social order, based on democratic planning and market mechanisms.

, democratic socialists often distance themselves from historical examples of socialism and communism, which have had largely negative connotations in the US since the Cold War era.
Proponents also say that democratic socialism is broader than “social democracy” which often involves welfare states operating under capitalism.
The Communist Party USA says that although it shares some values with democratic socialists such as opposing war and wanting a high minimum wage, it believes that this can only happen through a fundamental restructuring of society.
Meanwhile, many democratic socialists believe that radical transformation cannot be realized in the short term, so they use methods such as organizing, lobbying, and protesting in the hope of making changes in the existing system, at least for now.
