National Research and Innovation Agency (
BRIN
) plans to sell sophisticated equipment to the Directorate General
Customs and Excise
(DJBC) Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu).
This tool is said to be able to detect any irregularities in goods containers entering the country.
Head of BRIN Arif Satria offered this sophisticated tool worth Rp. 700 million-Rp. 900 million directly to the Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa when they together attended the Inauguration of the Container Scanner Equipment at Terminal 3 and Mustika Alam Sari Terminal, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, Friday (12/12).

“IDR 1.6 (billion) for imports. BRIN’s own production is around IDR 700 (million), half that,” said Arif.
BRIN’s tool currently in circulation is the Radiation Portal Monitor (RPM).Arif emphasized that his sophistication had been tested when he detected Cesium-137 in the Cikande Modern Industrial Area (KIM), Serang Regency, Banten.
According to Arif, the price is currently at their own expense. However, if there is a lot of interest in it, then maybe it can be produced publicly and in collaboration with the private sector, so the price will be cheaper.
“We can get around IDR 700 (million), IDR 800 (million), IDR 900 (million) which is what BRIN produces. But I don’t know, it will partner with the private sector. Maybe mass production could be even cheaper,” he explained.
He said that BRIN is currently only producing these scanners one by one, according to orders.RPM production itself has been carried out since 2017.
Meanwhile, Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa asked BRIN to provide a discount from the original price of IDR 700 million-IDR 900 million. He wants the price to be 25 percent of the international price.
Purbaya emphasized that his party needs this sophisticated X-Ray to be placed in all Indonesian ports.
“With low prices from BRIN, I think we can equip everything, all ports in Indonesia. Can the price be 25 percent of the world price? Another 50 percent discount is significant, so we’ll talk about it later,” said Purbaya to Arif, laughing.
According to Purbaya, the presence of X-Ray or the new scanning tool is capable of detecting nuclear materials and radioactive substances in containers. It is even claimed that inspection of export-import goods can be carried out quickly and accurately without opening the container.
