did not give up its intention to annex all of Ukraine and reclaim parts of Europe that once belonged to the Soviet empire.

Putin’s mission is believed to have not changed even though negotiators are currently trying to end the war with Ukraine which would result in Russia gaining far less territory.
The reports present a very different picture from the narrative of US President Donald Trump and his Ukraine peace negotiators who say Putin wants to end the conflict.
The intelligence also contradicts the Russian leader’s denial that he is a threat to Europe.
The US findings have been consistent since Putin decided on a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. They are largely in line with the view of European leaders and intelligence agencies that he wants all of Ukraine and the territory of former Soviet bloc countries, including members of the NATO alliance.
“Intelligence always shows that Putin wants more,” said Mike Quigley, a Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, in an interview with Reuters.
“Europeans are sure of that. Poles are really sure of that. The Baltic countries think they are the first,” he said again.
Russia controls about 20 percent of Ukraine, including most of Luhansk and Donetsk, the provinces that form the industrial heartland of Donbas, parts of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson provinces, as well as Crimea, the strategic Black Sea peninsula.
Putin claims Crimea and the four provinces as belonging to Russia.Trump is pressuring Kyiv to withdraw its troops from the small part of Donetsk it controls as part of a proposed peace deal, according to two sources familiar with the matter.
The demand was rejected by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and most Ukrainians.
“The president’s team has made tremendous progress in terms of ending the war” and Trump has stated that a peace deal is “closer than ever,” a White House official said without discussing the intelligence report.
