This latest attack increases the death toll from US military attacks on suspected drug smuggling vessels to 83 people.

reported that the military is using a variety of fighter jets, drones and helicopter gunships to launch attacks in a campaign that US officials say is aimed at stopping the flow of drugs into the US.
The attack came days after a Defense Department official said the US launched its 20th attack on a suspected drug smuggling vessel last week.
The Justice Department has told Congress that the administration does not need its approval to carry out the attacks, which some experts say could violate U.S. and international law.
The ongoing campaign also began to raise tensions with allies;Britain has stopped sharing intelligence with the US about ships suspected of transporting drugs to avoid involvement in the attacks, which Britain says are illegal.
Colombia’s president also said last week that he had ordered his country to suspend intelligence sharing with the US until the attacks stop.
