, was forced to return to Dulles International Airport, Washington, United States, after experiencing engine failure during takeoff on Saturday (13/12) local time.
The incident occurred when the Boeing 777-200ER aircraft was carrying 275 passengers and 15 crew.Luckily, no one was injured in this incident.

However, some passengers panicked because engine failure triggered a small fire on the plane’s wing.
“Shortly after takeoff, United Flight 803 returned to Washington Dulles and landed safely to resolve a loss of power to one of its engines,” the airline said.

, the plane’s engine failed when the 777-200ER departed for Tokyo’s Haneda Airport at around 12:20 noon from Washington Dulles.

“The fire was extinguished and the plane returned to Dulles, landed safely at approximately 1:30 p.m. and was then checked by the airport fire team,” said an airport spokesperson.
According to the official, the affected runway had to be temporarily closed, “but Dulles has several runways so other flight operations are not disrupted.”
Meanwhile, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said it would investigate the incident.
According to specialist website AirLive, the plane dumped fuel over the city of Fredericksburg, Virginia, “an important safety procedure used to reduce the aircraft’s weight to a safe level before attempting an emergency landing.”
Based on registration information provided by the site, the Boeing 777 in Saturday’s incident was first delivered in November 1998 to Continental Airlines, which was later acquired by United Airlines.The aircraft was equipped with two General Electric engines, now known as GE Aerospace.
After the passengers were evacuated, United Flight 803 then departed to continue its flight using a different aircraft on Saturday, six and a half hours after its initial scheduled departure, to Haneda.
