He also emphasized that he would not hesitate to throw members of the Democratic Party in prison for statements they deemedĀ incitingĀ to his policies.
“This is very bad and dangerous for our country. Their words must not be tolerated. The treasonous behavior of the treasonous perpetrators. Lock them up!”Trump wrote on his social media account, Truth.
About 40 minutes later, Trump wrote in Truth a more serious threat: “Treasonous behavior, punishable by death!”
Democrats rushed to condemn the Republican leader’s remarks as “absolutely vile.”
Trump’s threat emerged in response to a video circulating on November 18 containing recordings of six Democratic Senators and DPR members, all of whom are US military and intelligence veterans.
They then warned their colleagues in the military and intelligence to reject “illegal orders.”
“We know that you are under extraordinary stress and great pressure right now. The American people trust their military, but that trust is at risk,” said a statement by one of the US military veteran Senate members in the video.
In the US, the Uniform Code of Military Justice strictly prohibits military personnel from refusing orders from superiors. However, an order is only valid if it does not “contradict the Constitution, the laws of the United States, or a lawful order of a superior officer.”
Meanwhile, orders “beyond the authority of the official who issued them” are considered unlawful or illegal.
