Donald Trump
announced the creation of a new class of heavily armed warship to be named after him.
In the initial stage, as many as two Trump class ships will be built and there may be more.Trump said the ships would be “one of the deadliest surface warships” as well as “the largest combat ships in our country’s history.”

Trump made the announcement at his residence in Mar-a-Lago, Florida, on Monday (22/12), accompanied by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Navy Secretary John Phelan.At the location, pictures of the high-tech ship are also displayed.
When asked whether the warships were intended as a deterrent to China’s growing influence, Trump declined to elaborate and said “this is a deterrent for everyone, not just China. We have a good relationship with China.”
According to Trump, the ships will weigh between 30,000 and 40,000 tons and be armed with missiles and cannons, including weapons systems still in development such as lasers and hypersonic missiles.

, he also said the Trump-class ships would be capable of carrying nuclear weapons, in the form of sea-launched nuclear cruise missiles.
These ships will be much larger than current US destroyers and cruisers.However, Trump’s estimated weight is still slightly smaller than the last US battleship of the Iowa class, which was retired in the 1990s.
Trump’s announcement came just days after the US Navy published plans for another new class of ship, the FF(X) frigate, which it said would “complement the large, multi-purpose ships in the fleet.”
The FF(X) frigate will be based on an existing design from the HII shipyard and currently in service with the US Coast Guard.The target is that the first frigate of this new class can enter service in 2028.
The US is currently far behind China in the number of naval ships.A report to Congress earlier this year noted concerns by US military officials and observers about China’s rapid shipbuilding.
“We will restore America as a great power in the shipbuilding industry,” Trump said.
“We will ensure the United States has the most powerful fleet anywhere in the world, and for the long term, with battleships as its spearhead.”
