Donald Trump
held a meeting with the President of Syria
Ahmed al-Sharaa
at the White House, Washington D.C, on Monday (10/11).
The meeting between the two presidents became new history because it had never happened before.Sharaa came to the US just days after Washington removed her from its terrorism blacklist.
After the meeting, Trump said Sharaa would be able to rebuild the war-torn country.

“He’s a very strong leader. He comes from a very tough environment, and he’s a tough person,” Trump told reporters, quoted from
AFP
.
“People say he’s had a difficult past, we all have a difficult past… And I think, honestly, if you don’t have a difficult past, you don’t have a chance,” he added.
Trump said Syria was a “huge part” of his plan for broader Middle East peace, which he hopes will shore up a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza.
However, he did not confirm reports that Sharaa would bring Syria into the US-led international alliance against the Islamic State (IS) group, or that the country would sign a non-aggression pact with Israel.
The Syrian president’s visit marks a remarkable turnaround for a former jihadist who was once wanted by the US with a $10 million bounty.
Meanwhile the Syrian Presidency said Sharaa and Trump discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.
“Ways to strengthen and develop it, as well as a number of regional and international issues of mutual interest,” said X’s social media account.
Published photos showed Trump standing and shaking hands with a smiling Sharaa next to the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.
Other photos showed the Syrian leader sitting across from Trump alongside top US officials including Vice President JD Vance, Pentagon Chief Pete Hegseth and Top US Military Officer Dan Caine.
Since coming to power, Syria’s new leaders have sought to break away from their violent past and present a more moderate image to the Syrian people and foreign powers.
Sharaa met Trump for the first time in Saudi Arabia during the US leader’s regional visit in May.At the time, Trump called Sharaa an “attractive young man.”
Sharaa has also made diplomatic advances to Washington’s rivals.He met with Russian President Vladimir Putin last October.This is their first meeting since Assad was overthrown.
Sharaa is expected to seek financial support to rebuild Syria devastated by 13 years of war.
The World Bank last October estimated the country’s reconstruction costs at around US$216 billion or the equivalent of more than IDR 3,400 trillion.
