“It is a great insult that the G20 Summit will be held in South Africa,” Trump said via his social network, Truth Social, Sunday (9/11).
Trump again pointed the finger at white South Africans or
Afrikaners
“systematically murdered and slaughtered” in the country.
“No US government official will be present as long as these human rights violations continue,” he added.
Trump alleged that Afrikaners who are descendants of European colonizers in South Africa “are being killed and slaughtered, and their land and agricultural land is being confiscated illegally.”
South Africa’s Foreign Ministry regretted Trump’s remarks and emphasized that it looked forward to holding a “successful” summit on November 22-23.
“The depiction of Afrikaners as an exclusively white group is inconsistent with history. In addition, claims that this community faced persecution are not supported by facts,” said the ministry’s official statement as quoted by AFP.
Pretoria is carrying the theme “Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability” for its chairmanship of the G20, despite facing a number of rejections, including from Washington.
“South Africa’s focus remains on its positive contribution to the world,” the ministry said.
“Based on our own experience of moving from racial and ethnic division to democracy, our nation is in a unique position to fight for a future of true solidarity in the G20 forum.”
