has prepared several names of potential commanders for the Peacekeeping Force it plans to send to
Gaza
, Palestine.
Head of the TNI Information Center, Major General (Mar) Freddy Ardianzah, said the official determination of the commander was still waiting for the government’s decision and mandate from the UN.
Freddy explained that the commander would be a high-ranking three-star officer who had sufficient experience in joint operations and multilateralism operations.

“Currently the TNI has prepared several names of candidates, but the official appointment of the Commander of the Peacekeeping Force is still waiting for a decision from the government and the UN. What is clear is that the commander will come from a high-ranking three-star officer,” said Freddy when confirmed, Tuesday (25/11).
He explained that the commander’s position is as a force commander who leads all elements of the Indonesian contingent in humanitarian and peacekeeping missions.
His duties include controlling the operations of all elements in the three composite brigades, coordinating with the UN, troop contributing countries and local authorities, ensuring the safety of personnel and the effectiveness of humanitarian missions.Then, maintain neutrality and comply with UN mandates.
“The commander will be based in the operational area according to the UN mission structure, but the deployment pattern will be adjusted to field needs, security and UN decisions,” he said.
Freddy explained that the appointment of a three-star high ranking officer was based on the large scale of operations involving three composite brigades.
Another consideration is the complexity of the task which includes humanitarian, reconstruction, health, citizen protection aspects and the need for intensive coordination with the UN and international actors.
The TNI requires prospective commanders to have TNI joint operations experience, international assignment experience or overseas education.
“Understanding of peacekeeping operations and military diplomacy and strategic communications capabilities,” he said.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto previously said that his party was selecting soldiers who would later join the peacekeeping force to be sent to Gaza, Palestine.
He said that the commander of the troop contingent would be a three-star general.
“The Peacekeeping Force contingent is already in the selection stage. Then the plan is to be led by a 3-Star General,” said Agus at the parliament complex, Jakarta, Monday (24/11)
He said the plan was for the troops to consist of three composite brigades.This brigade consists of one Health Battalion, one Construction Engineer Battalion, a Mechanical Assistance and Support Battalion.
