Chairman of Commission IV DPR RI Siti Hediyati Hariyadi or better known
Titiek Soeharto
asked the public not to be prejudiced by allegations of bribery for permits in forest areas behind the ecological disaster in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra.
“We shouldn’t be rude,” said Titiek when met after the agenda of ‘Technical Guidance for Women State Administrators in Eradicating Corruption’ in the commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) 2025 at the Yogyakarta Kepatihan Complex, Monday (8/12).
Titiek said that the process of forming a Working Committee (Panja) for Land Conversion is still being processed in the DPR.For this reason, he hopes that the public will not rush into making decisions regarding the causes of the disaster in the three provinces which caused many casualties and material losses.

“Our working committee is all working. We just need to appoint a deputy chairman,” he said.
“It must be completely evaluated,” he added when touched on permits for land clearing in forest areas.
Ecological disasters in Aceh, North Sumatra and West Sumatra claimed many lives and badly damaged many facilities. The Indonesian government has not yet declared national disaster status.
President Prabowo Subianto and his subordinates have held a disaster coordination meeting at the Sultan Iskandar Muda Air Base Integrated Command Post, Aceh Besar Regency, Aceh Province, Sunday (7/12) evening.
A number of decisions were taken at the meeting in question.Including regarding access to assistance and discussing temporary housing for affected victims.
Previously, the Ministry of Environment (KLH) said that there was a large contribution from land clearing activities for hydropower plants, industrial forest plantations, mining and also oil palm plantations behind the big floods in Sumatra.
The reason is, this activity triggers pressure on the wood material to fall and erosion in large quantities.
“From the helicopter overview, it is clear that land clearing activities for hydroelectric power plants, industrial forest plantations, mining and palm oil plantations are visible. This pressure triggers large amounts of wood material falling and erosion. We will continue to expand supervision to Batang Toru, Garoga and other watersheds in North Sumatra,” said Deputy for Environmental Law Enforcement at KLH/BPLH Rizal Irawan in an official statement from the Ministry of Environment on Friday (5/12).
