1. Mount Gede Pangrango
One of the favorite mountains for climbers, Mount Gede Pangrango has begun to temporarily close as of October 13 2025. Through circular number PG.06/T.2/TU/B/10/2025, this closure is carried out in an effort to organize the Mount Gede Pangrango National Park area and handle piles of rubbish on climbing routes.
During the closure of Mount Pangrango, the management will carry out cleaning. This management is carried out in collaboration with Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park officers, TNI, Polri, volunteers and students.
2. Mount Salak
The Gunung Halimun Salak National Park Office (TNGHS) also did the same thing.Mount Salak has been temporarily closed since December 22 2025. One of the reasons is because of the bad weather that has occurred recently and as an effort to naturally restore the ecosystem there.
In circular letter SE.1/T.14/TU/KSA.5.1/B/03/2025, it is explained that Mount Salak will be closed during the Christmas holiday season until early 2026. To be precise, from 22 December 2025 to 31 March 2026.
A total of four official climbing routes were also closed, namely the Cidahu, Pasir Reungit, Cimalati and Ajisaka routes.
3. Mount Semeru
The Mount Semeru climbing route is also temporarily closed. This policy will be implemented by the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Center (BBTNBTS) on November 19 2025 and will end in March 2026.
The closure of Mount Semeru was carried out as a form of anticipation for the eruption of Mount Semeru which could endanger climbers if hot clouds descended continuously. The closure also follows extreme weather during the end of this year.
4. Mount Rinjani
Mount Rinjani will be closed in early 2026 by the Mount Rinjani National Park Office (TNGR).The closure was carried out in order to mitigate the risk of hydrometeorological disasters and to restore the mountain area ecosystem.
Mount Rinjani will be temporarily closed on January 1 – March 31 2026. The six routes that will be closed include the Senaru, Torean, Sembalun, Timbanuh, Tetebatu and Aik Berik routes.
For those of you who want to climb Mount Rinjani to end the year, order tickets no later than 28 December 2025 at 23.59 WITA.
For those who have purchased tickets until that date, the limit is limited

5. Mount Merapi
This mountain is actually not specifically closed for the Christmas holiday period, but has not been climbing for quite some time.Since it closed in May 2018, until today there has been no indication of when climbing Mount Merapi will reopen.
The closure in 2018 was carried out due to volcanic activity entering alert status. Its status was then raised to alert in November 2020.
If someone is seen climbing Mount Merapi, it is certain that they are illegal climbers.
