Ryan Adriandhy, at a media conference in Cikini, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday (12/11), revealed that the choice of the novel Na Willa was based on his personal love for the work.
“From the book Na Willa, I really love how Reda Gaudiamo writes characters and how he respects children’s characters,” said Ryan.
“And how the character, the child’s world is seen through Na Willa’s eyes, is not separated from the adult world that is happening around him,” he continued.
“How Willa is full of questions, full of courage and lots of other emotional dimensions, that’s what makes me really love this character.”
Ryan explained that he deliberately chose the live action format in adapting this film because it created a strong sense of nostalgia and realism, considering that the story was set half a century ago.
“Because when I read it, what was touching was how Na Willa’s lens saw the world around her. And how the 1960s era was in Na Willa’s life, the way she interacted with her surroundings was very contextual and her soul was there,” said Ryan.
Chief Content Officer of Visinema Studios and producer of this film, Anggia Kharisma, emphasized that the adaptation of Na Willa does not just move the story from the book.It is hoped that the presence of visual elements will enable the audience to “really enter the world of children, which is rarely present in Indonesian family films.”
Meanwhile, through a video broadcast, Reda Gaudiamo admitted that he was touched when he was first approached about making his work into a film.He said the Na Willa story was in good hands.
“When I found out that Visinema was interested in filming Na Willa in live action, I felt very happy, proud and touched. I knew that Na Willa was in the right hands, hands that love Na Willa and I felt the warmth,” said Reda.

Regarding the production schedule, Anggia Kharisma confirmed that the filming process will start on the second weekend of November 2025 and hopes to greet the audience on the big screen during family holidays next year.
