The majority of Asian currencies strengthened this morning, such as the Thai baht rose 0.13 percent, the Japanese yen rose 0.06 percent, the Singapore dollar rose 0.01 percent, the South Korean won rose 1.29 percent, the Chinese yuan rose 0.11 percent, and the Philippine peso rose 0.04 percent.

Meanwhile, the main currencies of developed countries opened mixed.The British pound sterling weakened 0.04 percent, the European euro rose 0.03 percent, the Swiss franc rose 0.10 percent, the Australian dollar rose 0.05 percent, and the Canadian dollar was stagnant.
Doo Financial Futures analyst Lukman Leong said the rupiah has the potential to strengthen against the US dollar which continues to weaken after several weaker US economic data, including data on sales of durable goods and the level of consumer confidence.
“The US dollar is also still under pressure from the Fed’s additional liquidity of U$40 billion per month which began in mid-December,” he said in a statement.

He estimates that the rupiah will move in the range of IDR 16,650 – IDR 16,800 per US dollar.
