US officials said Indonesia was withdrawing from several commitments made by both parties in the agreement.However, he did not specify which specific commitments Indonesia was withdrawing from.

According to him, Indonesian officials have informed US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer that Indonesia cannot agree to several binding commitments, and wants to reformulate negotiations with the US.
He believes that this step actually risks producing an agreement that is more detrimental to Washington, compared to the two most recent agreements that were reached with other Southeast Asian countries, namely with Malaysia and Cambodia.
Last July, Indonesia agreed to remove tariffs on more than 99 percent of imported goods from the US, as well as removing all non-tariff barriers facing American companies.
On the other hand, the US is willing to reduce import tariffs on products from Indonesia from 32 percent to 19 percent.
The deal was first announced by US President Donald Trump on July 15.He called the deal a big win for US automakers, technology companies, workers and farmers.
Last week, US Finance Minister Scott Bessent stated that Indonesia was ‘rather stubborn’ in trade deals, although he did not specify how hard the lobbying with RI was.
