Thailand 2025 clarified and has sent a letter of apology to Laos and Vietnam for the embarrassing incident regarding the failure to play the national anthem before kick-off at the 2025 SEA Games.
“The Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT) recently clarified that the problem was not caused by copyright restrictions on the national anthem, but rather by a malfunction in the stadium’s sound system, as no music was playing at the time, even though the system had been tested two days earlier and found to be functioning normally,” Thai Media wrote.

“The failure to play the national anthem was not due to copyright issues, but rather due to a failure in the sound system. We will speed up repairs so that future participants can play the national anthem as usual,” said Kongsak.
The inappropriate incident occurred when Laos and Vietnam players sang the national anthem ‘acapella’ without musical accompaniment during the opening match of Group B in the 2025 SEA Games men’s soccer match.
Vietnam won 2-1 over Laos in the first match of Group B in men’s soccer at the 2025 SEA Games at Rajamangala Stadium, Bangkok, on Wednesday (3/12).
However, this match was marred by incidents of not wearing clothes before kick-off.The unpleasant moment for the Laos and Vietnam camps occurred when the procession sang the national anthems of the two countries before kick-off.
The sound system at Rajamangala Stadium suddenly experienced technical problems, making the committee decide not to play the music that usually accompanies the procession singing the national anthem.
As a result, this problem forced the Laotian players, and then later the Vietnamese players to sing the song without accompanying music.
“Drama erupted in the opening match of the 33rd SEA Games men’s football tournament between Laos and Vietnam at Rajamangala Stadium after the national anthems of both teams were not played before the match, causing confusion among fans and athletes in the stadium,” wrote Thai media Siam Sport.
