Joint personnel were seen working non-stop using shovels, hoes and other tools to remove soil and stone material covering the road, in order to speed up the normalization of this important route.
“Not only focusing on opening roads, personnel in the field also help residents whose houses are filled with landslide material. Residents and officers work together to clean up the mud so that their houses can become habitable again and safe from further threats,” he explained.
Ferry emphasized that opening the Tarutung-Sibolga road access, which was previously completely paralyzed due to being buried by landslide material, was a top priority because this route plays an important role in the mobility of residents and distribution of aid.
“We ensure that all efforts are carried out optimally. Opening Tarutung-Sibolga access is not only about restoring transportation, but also ensuring that aid can reach residents in need more quickly,” he said.
According to Ferry, the North Sumatra Regional Police ensured that all personnel remained alert at vulnerable points, and recovery efforts would continue to be carried out until the situation was declared completely safe.
“With today’s positive developments, people’s hopes for returning to normal activities are greater,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the Head of Public Relations Subdivision of the North Tapanuli Police, Aiptu Walpon Baringbing, added that the extreme terrain conditions meant that some of the cleaning still had to be done semi-manually.Currently, cleaning up of landslide material is starting at KM 39.
“Current access to Tarutung-Sibolga for handling landslide material is at Km 39. From KM 39 to the border of Tapteng or Sibolga Regency is approximately another 4 km,” he explained.
