until the smoke grenade bomb attack in Taipei acted alone.
Police identified the man as Chang Wen a 27-year-old resident of Taoyuan City, Northern Taiwan.

Chang Wen carried out a stabbing attack and fired smoke grenades into a crowd in a shopping center area in central Taipei.The incident killed three people and injured 11 others, two of whom are still being treated in the intensive care unit.
“Based on the verification process that we have been carrying out since yesterday, we did not find any accomplices or other perpetrators involved,” said Director General of the National Police Agency Chang Jung Hsin to reporters on Saturday (20/12).

, Chang released a smoke bomb at Taipei’s main train station, then headed to a shopping center at a nearby MRT station.He attacked people both inside the mall and along the way to the location.
Chang Wen died after falling from a building while being chased by police after carrying out his action.Police are still investigating the motive for the attack.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Cho Jung Tai said the perpetrator had previously been the subject of an arrest warrant.Chang Wen was even on the wanted list for allegedly evading military service in Taiwan.
Violent crime is very rare in Taiwan.Following this incident, police presence was increased across the island, including in the busy capital Taipei.
“For areas in Taipei City which are expected to become mass gathering points in various commercial areas, we are increasing overall security measures,” Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan An told reporters.
“This step not only includes increasing the number of police personnel, but also ensuring that all officers are equipped with the necessary equipment,” said Wan An.
Taiwanese President Lai Ching Te, who visited a number of injured victims in hospital on the morning of December 20, wrote on his Facebook page that the government would learn lessons from the incident.
“We will also ensure that rapid response units can be immediately deployed when an emergency occurs, to ensure public safety,” he said.
