Suharto
officially received the title
national hero
by President Prabowo Subainto on Monday (10/11) or to coincide with Heroes’ Day.
The award procession was held at the State Palace, Jakarta yesterday to coincide with National Heroes’ Day.Suharto’s two children, Bambang Trihatmodjo and Siti Hardiyanti Rukmana alias Tutut were present in the procession as heirs.
Chairman of the Council for Degrees, Services and Honors (GTK) Fadli Zon conveyed the services of the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soeharto, so that he was deemed worthy of the title of national hero.

He said that Suharto played a major role in a number of major military operations in Indonesia.
“Pak Harto’s struggles in this matter have been studied, including the March 1 General Offensive, he took part in the battle in Ambarawa, took part in the 5 day battle in Semarang, and became the commander of the Mandala operation for the seizure of West Irian,” said Fadli at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Monday (10/11).
Then, Fadli said that Suharto also succeeded in stopping the G30 rebellion in September 1965, which Fadli called the PKI rebellion.
“And also at that time stopped the rebellion carried out through the 30 September PKI movement,” he said.
Apart from that, Suharto is also considered to have played a major role in Indonesia’s development.He said that Suharto played a role in alleviating poverty in Indonesia.
After receiving the title of national hero, the Suharto family expressed their thanks to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Prabowo Subianto.
“We as a family feel grateful. Thank Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, thank President Prabowo, thank the Indonesian people,” said Bambang.
Then Tutut also responded to the pros and cons of making his father a national hero.He said that currently people are smart and can judge for themselves.

, you can see what you are doing, you can judge for yourself.”We don’t need to defend ourselves or anything, but everything is visible, there’s nothing to cover up,” said Tutut.
He also considers the pros and cons of this issue to be normal in democratic life.
However, Tutut still asked all parties to look at Suharto’s services while leading Indonesia for 32 years.
In the process, Soeharto’s designation as a hero reaped pros and cons among society.This is related to gross human rights violations, authoritarianism, and allegations of rampant corruption, collusion and nepotism during the Soeharto regime.
One of them was from the Justice Soeharto Civil Society Movement (GEMAS) which stated that the proposal was a disappointing step.
Likewise, the Director of the Gusdurian Network and daughter of Gus Dur, Alissa Wahid, expressed her objection to the awarding of the title of National Hero to Suharto even though he was considered to have traces in the struggle for independence and development and food self-sufficiency.
He emphasized that the collective memory of the Indonesian people shows the opposite regarding Suharto’s rule with the New Order (Orba).Alissa said that during his 32 years in power, Suharto was involved in various actions that violated heroic values.
On the other hand, Mustasyar, the General Manager of Nahdlatul Ulama (PBNU) KH Ahmad Mustofa Bisri (Gus Mus) rejected the plan to award the title of National Hero to the 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Soeharto.
“I at least agree that Suharto was made a National Hero,” said Gus Mus at his residence in Leteh, Rembang, Central Java, as reported by NU Online, Sunday (9/11).
He said that many Islamic boarding school and NU clerics were treated unfairly during Soeharto’s rule.
