Lee Jae Myung decides to return the presidential office to the complex
Blue House
which is a traditional symbol of power.
The move marks the abandonment of the Defense Ministry complex used by former South Korean president Yoon Suk Yeol who was impeached in April.

, President Lee’s office said the move to the main Blue House building is expected to be completed by Christmas.
However, the presidential residence will not be moved at the same time, because part of the Blue House is undergoing inspection due to damage during the previous administration.
According to a statement from the presidential office on Monday (22/12), further steps regarding this matter will be announced later.
Previously, Lee, who won the election last June, promised to move the presidential office to Sejong City south of Seoul.The city is home to a number of ministries and is considered strategic for driving economic growth in Seoul.
On Monday, the president’s office had not revealed plans for the complex left by Lee.
Previously, Yoon ended decades of tradition by moving the presidential office and residence from the Blue House.After taking office in 2022, he moved the presidential office to a row of former Defense Ministry buildings in another area of central Seoul.
The move drew criticism regarding security and cost US$40 million (around Rp. 668 billion).The policy also sparked debate among feng shui experts, after a number of political rivals accused Yoon of being influenced by the view that the location of the Blue House was considered unlucky.
Since Yoon left, the Blue House was opened to the public and visited by more than eight million people until mid-June 2025.
The Blue House is known as Cheong Wa Dae in Korean.The building is named after the blue tiles that cover the roof of the main building and is in a beautiful location at the foot of Mount Bugaksan.
