Since volleyball was competed at the 1977 SEA Games, Indonesia and Thailand have been the two countries with the most gold in men’s volleyball.Indonesia has won SEA Games gold a total of 12 times, while Thailand has won SEA Games gold eight times.
Outside of Indonesia and Thailand, only Myanmar (Burma) was able to win a gold medal.Myanmar (Burma) won gold in 1977, 1979 and 1983. Automatically, since 1985, men’s volleyball gold has only belonged to Indonesia and Thailand.

Indonesia’s status as owner of the most gold in the SEA Games men’s volleyball event was threatened in the 2010s.Thailand won four consecutive gold medals in the 2011 to 2017 edition. As a result, Thailand, which has collected eight gold medals, is only one gold away from Indonesia.
However, Indonesia then managed to recover and regain control of men’s volleyball at the SEA Games.In the last three editions, Indonesia has always won gold medals.
With this record, Indonesia has now collected 12 gold medals in men’s volleyball.Indonesia certainly hopes to further distance itself from Thailand.
Indonesia qualified for the final after beating Vietnam with a score of 3-2.Meanwhile, Thailand advanced to the top match by ending the Philippines’ resistance with a score of 3-0.
