moving competition locations for several sports due to flooding in Thailand.
“Athletes’ safety is always the top priority. We understand and support the steps taken by the Thailand 2025 SEA Games Organizing Committee to relocate a number of venues to areas that are safer and ready for use,” said Bayu in a written statement, Friday (28/11).
“The Indonesian team will immediately adjust all technical preparation plans with related sports, including venue surveys and adjustments to contingent strategies. We hope that this move will further ensure the quality of competition and comfort for all athletes from participating countries,” he added.

The change in location for the 2025 SEA Games was made after considering the flood conditions currently hitting the Southern Thailand region, including Songkhla Province, which was originally designated as one of the provinces hosting the 33rd SEA Games.
The decision was announced on November 27 2025, at the second meeting of the Organizing Committee for the 33rd SEA Games and 13th ASEAN Para Games chaired by the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand, Atthakorn Sirilathayakorn, and attended by various Thai sports officials and related associations.
A number of sports that were previously scheduled to take place in Hat Yai District and Mueang District, Songkhla have now been moved to Bangkok and Chonburi.
The list of sports that must move is Muay Thai, men’s football, chess, kabaddi, wushu, pencak silat, judo, petanque, karate, wrestling, as well as billiards and snooker.
THASOC emphasized that the relocation was carried out for safety reasons and to ensure the smooth and quality implementation of the largest multi-event event in the Southeast Asia region.
“We would also like to thank the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Mr. Prabowo Subianto, for his concern for the world of Indonesian sports by providing full support to all Indonesian Team athletes so that they can return home with the best achievements for Indonesia from the Thailand SEA Games,” said Bayu.
“We pray that the situation in Songkhla will soon improve and that the people there will recover from the conditions they are facing. We are also concerned about the same flood situation that hit parts of Malaysia as well as the affected areas in Aceh and Sumatra. At the same time, we are optimistic that the 2025 SEA Games will remain an event that unites the spirit of friendship and fair play for all ASEAN nations,” Bayu emphasized.
